Born and raised in Essex, Kurtis studied in Guildford, completing his BA(hons) Music Industry Practice degree, specialising in Bass Guitar, at The Academy of Contemporary Music and achieving Upper Second Class honours. During this time, Kurtis was taught by top industry professionals such as Pat Hughes (Dr. John Cooper Clarke, Hugh Cornwell), Sandy Beales (One Direction, JP Cooper) and Brian Henry (Chaka Kahn, Soul II Soul), to name a few.

Before studying at The Academy of Contemporary Music, Kurtis was part of a band covering a deluge of songs, varying from Rush to Green Day, and played in countless local club and festival venues in his native Essex. He gained his love and experience for the bass guitar in this atmosphere and was always striving for more.

Kurtis chose to attend The Academy of Contemporary Music to hone his skills, not only solely as a bass player, but as a professional musician, in general. He has put this into practice by playing a part in multiple gigs, such as with Indie-pop songwriter Aspen Lourdes over the course of 2019 and 2020, as well as, working on an EP project called Pilot Light. Kurtis’ experiences brought to him from his time studying at The Academy of Contemporary Music opened his mind to the many styles and genres he has chosen to explore and also what he enjoys playing currently.
